Thanos Vrachnos, MSc

Thanos Vrachnos is the Founder of the Digital Trust Center of Excellence and a senior cybersecurity and trust services consultant with over a decade of experience in ICT standards compliance and conformity assessments. His professional trajectory spans from systems engineering and secure infrastructure design to cybersecurity compliance and offensive security operations, providing him with a rare dual perspective across assurance and adversarial domains. With the launch of eIDAS Regulation back in 2014, this foundation evolved into deep specialization in PKI and cryptographic key management and evolved further to electronic identification, biometrics, and remote identity proofing. Today, he advises public and private sector organizations across the EU and the US on eID, PKI, and trust services under eIDAS 2.0 and WebTrust. Actively involved in the European digital trust ecosystem, his work includes participation in eID scheme peer reviews and notifications, eIDAS interoperability, subject-matter contribution to conformity assessments for qualified trust service providers and EUDI Wallet consultations for DG CNECT, as well as studies and co-authored reports for ENISA.

Thanos approaches digital identity as a socio-technical system where trust, ethics, and inclusion are as essential as cryptography, standards, and regulatory compliance.
